Frequently asked questions

Short, practical answers about how this converter works, what it can and cannot do, and what happens to your files.

Service basics

Is this a free conversion service?

There is no paid conversion API and no per-conversion charge. The operator pays for the server and runs open-source conversion tools locally. Limits exist to keep the service usable and protect the server.

Do I need an account?

No. The basic conversion flow is available without registration. The private download token is the only access key for a job, so keep the result page open and do not share its link.

How many files can I convert at once?

One file per request. Upload requests are rate limited, and the queue processes jobs in the background. If you need many files, wait for each job to finish instead of opening several simultaneous uploads.

Why does the status stay on “queued”?

A queued job is waiting for the background worker. On this deployment the worker is started by a scheduler, so a job can wait up to about one minute before it begins. Large or complex files take longer after processing starts. Keep the page open so it can show the download link.

Formats and quality

Which formats are supported?

The formats page lists the formats implemented in the converter, the engine required for each, and the routes enabled on this server. It also lists formats that are deliberately not offered.

Can I convert any format into any other format?

No. Each input and output pair needs a compatible engine route. The application shows only verified routes, and a route that is missing from the selector is not a supported conversion on this server.

Why can’t I convert a PDF to Word or Excel?

PDF is a fixed-layout format. Rebuilding an editable document from a PDF is unreliable and often produces broken tables, text order, and spacing. This service does not advertise PDF-to-office conversion. PDF is offered as an output format, and PDF input is limited to DjVu output where the specialized tool exists.

Will the converted file look exactly like the original?

Not always. Fonts, page breaks, tables, formulas, images, headers, and footers can shift when formats represent them differently. Review the result before relying on it, especially for contracts, invoices, and complex spreadsheets.

Are macros in DOCM or DOTM executed?

No. Macros, JavaScript, and embedded active content are never executed. Macro-enabled files may lose their macros or change during conversion.

Do you support OCR for scanned files?

No. Scanned images and image-only PDFs are not converted into searchable or editable text. OCR is outside the current scope.

Privacy and retention

Are my files sent to a third-party conversion service?

No. Conversion runs with local open-source tools on this server. Files are not submitted to a paid or external conversion API. The hosting provider still processes data as part of running the server.

How long are files kept?

Source files are removed after processing. A completed result stays available through a temporary link for 1 hour(s), then is removed by the cleanup schedule. Uploads are limited to 25 MB per file.

Can I delete a file sooner?

Yes. The result panel includes the delete action for the current job. The privacy notice explains storage, logs, cookies, and contact messages in more detail.

Do you show ads or use Google cookies?

Advertising is disabled by default and no Google advertising script is loaded today. If ads are enabled later, the privacy notice will describe the Google and partner data involved, and visitors in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland will be shown a consent choice through a Google-certified CMP where required.

Troubleshooting

Why was my upload rejected?

Common causes are a file over the size limit, an extension that does not match the actual file content, a damaged or password-protected file, or a format that is not enabled. Refresh the page, wait a minute if you see a rate-limit message, and try one file at a time.

Why did the conversion fail?

The engine may not support a feature in the source file, the file may be damaged or encrypted, or the conversion may have timed out. Try a simpler file or a different output format. If the problem repeats, use the contact page and include the input format, output format, and the safe error message shown on screen.

Why is no output format offered?

Either the input format is not supported, or no verified route from that input is enabled. The selector is generated from the server, so missing options are intentional rather than a loading error.

I refreshed the page and lost my download link. What now?

The current design keeps the private job token in the open page. Refreshing or closing the page can lose access to the result. Upload the file again and keep the result page open until the download link appears.
